How to Perform Umrah?

Umrah is a minor pilgrimage that can be made at any time of the year by taking Umrah Packages. Muslims from all over the world make Umrah each year. Umrah provides Muslims with such a chance to renew their faith and pray for their needs. It’s a great blessing of Allah (SWT) to perform.

In Islam, Umrah entails a trip to Makkah, Saudi Arabia. Umrah is an Arabic word that translates to “visit”. Umrah consists of four mandatory steps. Umrah can be finished in less than two to three hours and is essentially a spiritual “quick action”.

 

Four steps of Umrah

Ihram

It is the first requirement of Umrah. To enter into Ihram, a person must change his clothes and make an intention. If someone doesn’t wear Ihram, his Umrah will be invalid before Allah (SWT). A man’s Ihram has two garments, Rida and Izaar. While women can wear any type of clothing, but the whole dress should be according to Islamic tradition.

 

Forbidden acts of Ihram:

  • Using fragrance or perfume
  • wearing items that are sewn or patched
  • Harming insects
  • Hair or nail trimming
  • Hunting
  • Sexual interaction or activity
  • Putting on makeup and henna
  • Covering the head and face

Tawaf

Tawaf consists of seven rounds around the Kaaba, which is obligatory for performing Umrah. To perform Tawaf, ablution is mandatory. Some important points of circumambulation.

  • Tawaf must be started and ended on Hajar-e-Aswad.
  • Then offer the specific Dua for Tawaf.
  • The seven rounds must be done in the anti-clockwise direction.

 

Tawaf is not only an act of worship but it is an act of worship, which brings the pilgrims closer to Allah. It shows the unity of God’s servants and believers. After performing this, a pilgrim should offer two Rakats of Salah near the Maqam-e-Ibrahim. But one can perform these two Rakats anywhere in the Masjid al-Haram.

 

Sa’ee

Sa’ee is also an important ritual of Umrah. It involves walking back and forth between Safa and Marwah hills. These hills are situated near Mosque al-Haram. Both are separated by roughly 450 meters. Thus, the distance covered by the seven rounds of Sa’ee between the two hills is around 3.15 kilometers. While performing Sa’ee, pilgrims should recite Dua.

 

Halq/Taqsir

To leave the state of Ihram, pilgrims must perform this action. Halq practice includes shaving the head completely. This process is only required for men. For women, the required cutting of hair is just according to fingertip. There are good barber shops in Makkah where pilgrims can get a haircut and trim to perform this ritual. If a person does not have hair on his head to complete the ritual. He can use a razor on his head for the completion of Umrah.
